In the year 1871, Dr. King of the Geological Survey of India discovered coal near the village of Yellandu in Khammam district and one of the important coal seams bore his name. The Hyderabad (Deccan) Company Limited incorporated in England acquired mining rights in 1886 to exploit coal found in Yellandu area. The present Company was incorporated on 23rd December 1920 under the Hyderabad Companies Act as a public limited company with the name 'The Singareni Collieries Company Limited' (SCCL).The Company's accredited function is to explore and exploit the coal deposits in the Godavari valley coalfield, which is the only repository of coal in South India. Mining activities of SCCL are presently spread over four districts of Andhra Pradesh Viz. Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Warangal.The coal extracted by SCCL in the Godavari valley coalfield up to the year 2009-10 was about 929.12 million tonnes.

- BE/B.Tech/AMIE(Mining) (Regular) OR its equivalent qualification with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate
- BE/B.Tech/AMIE OR its equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical OR Electrical & Electronics Engg. (Regular) With a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate from the Institution approved by UGC & AICTE.
- BE/B.TECH/AMIE OR its equivalent qualification in Civil Engg. (Regular) with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate from the Institution approved by AICTE.
- Graduates with at least Two Years full-time Post Graduate Degree/P.G. Diploma/PostGraduate Programme in Management with Specialisation in HR / Industrial Relations & Personnel Management or MHRD or MBA Specialisation with HR (Major) or Master of Social Work with Specialisation in HR from recognised Indian University/ Institutes with minimum 60% marks
- Diploma in Mining Engineering from any State Board of Technical Education (Approved by AICTE). Note : On appointment as Junior Mining Engineer Trainee (JMET) on stipendiary basis, i) The candidates will be imparted suitable training in the mines for a period of 1 year to acquire statutory certificates and possess related knowledge. ii) On satisfactory completion of one year training and submission of valid Overman Certificate of competency, Gas Testing and First Aid Certificates and on passing departmental test, they will be appointed as Mining Sirdar/Shotfirer in Tech.& Sup. Gr.C. iii) On satisfactory completion of five years as Mining Sirdar / Shotfirer in T&S Gr. C, they will be appointed as Overman Tech. & Sup. Gr. B.
